Top 4 Myths About Cigars Every Newbie Smoker Should Know

Like every hobby, cigar smoking has its myths, with new hobbyists being at the mercy of adopting these silly myths although some of these myths sound true, such as the cigar wrapper influencing the taste.

Because I have taken some time to try out these myths, I can categorically state that they are simply what they are called "myths."

Without further ado, the following are some major myths cigar smokers believe. The list ranges from silly myths to those veteran cigar smokers believe to date. Let's dig in!

Smoking Cigar Is for the Wealthy

This myth is one of the silly ones, seeing as if it were true, most cigar smokers I know, including my friends, won't have the luxury of smoking cigars. The problem with this myth comes from Hollywood portraying cigar smokers as criminals, corrupt, and wealthy.

While some cigars are pretty expensive, the truth remains that some cigars cost less than $5 depending on the tobacco and wrapper used. Some good but affordable wrappers for cigars include pink diva wraps.

White Ash Shows the tobacco's High Quality

I won't lie; I find this particular myth bizarre, although the reason behind the myth seems quite clear. The myth stems from human nature to liken purity to quality.

People do it every time with fabrics, whiskey, wine, and even cigars. The ash appearing "clean" means the tobacco is better processed, right? You are wrong!

Cigars with white ash are simply ones with higher amounts of magnesium and calcium, which is essential for a good cigar but doesn't imply a good cigar. There are lots of cigars with pepper ash and salt that smoke incredibly well. As someone that has been smoking cigars for years, I have tasted white-ash cigars that are pretty bland.

Also, I have smoked cigars that the ashes weren't that white but tasted pretty great.

Darker Wrapper Means a Stronger Cigar

Lots of cigar lovers make the mistake of assuming that any cigar with a dark wrapper will undoubtedly be a strong cigar. This assumption is wrong, considering that there are lots of dark cigars that are flavorful but are hardly what we will call powerhouse cigars. Some cigars that fall into this category include Perdomo Lot 23 Maduro, Rocky Patel OWR, Macanudo Maduro 1997, etcetera.

Additionally, some cigars are lighter in complexion but pack a serious punch, like Connecticut, Hispaniola, and Savinelli cigars.

If you prefer flavored cigars, the pink diva wraps are one wrapper to try.

The Wrapper Determines the Cigar Taste

This myth is one that both the informed and uninformed accept. Although it comes from an accurate observation considering that the wrapper naturally adds lots of flavor to a cigar, most cigar lovers emphasize the myth beyond what's true.

A cigar's flavor goes beyond more than the wrapper type. The shape/size has much to do with the cigar taste the same way as the filler/binder tobacco.

The Bottom Line

As a new cigar smoke lover, you'll hear lots of myths and related topics while socializing with people. The more you continue as a cigar aficionado, the more myths you'll learn.

However, you've got to decide whether you'll go with the myths or get the right information concerning these ideas. Don't forget to go for the pink diva wraps if you prefer flavored and affordable cigars and enjoy a great smoking experience.
